BEER STYLE
Belgian Dubbel
Belgian Dubbel is a full-bodied, malty beer with a slight spiciness and a smooth alcoholic finish. Not as fruity as Belgian Strong Dark Ale, but still able to show hints of dark fruit. The colour ranges from deep amber to deep brown, characterised by a light hop bitterness that doesn’t linger. Dubbels often have a hint of caramel sweetness from crystal malt or black candi sugar. The body is medium to full, with a strong fizzy finish and a dry finish. Once a Trappist beer, there are now several “Abbey Dubbel” versions from different breweries that recreate the traditional flavour (e.g. Westvleteren 8, Westmalle Dubbel, Chimay Première).
