Vienna Lager
Vienna Lager, named after the city where it was brewed, is brewed using a three-step decoction process. It uses Munich, Pilsner, Vienna malts and dextrin, sometimes with wheat. The colour ranges from light to medium amber, often with a distinctive red hue. Noble hops are used sparingly, giving the beer a crisp, toasty flavour and a lingering caramel sweetness. Vienna Lager shares many similarities with German Märzen. Although it originated in Austria and is now rare, some classic versions still make their way to Mexico, notably Dos Equis Amber, thanks to Austrian brewers who emigrated in the late 19th century.
