Eight years have passed since the last time we said goodbye at the old bus station, shaking hands and smiling but our hearts were filled with unspoken words. Today, in a strange city, in a beer hall with the smell of old wood and yellow lights shining on the fine foam floating in the glass, I looked at you and smiled. We didn’t need to say anything, we just clinked glasses. And then the taste of beer flowed over my tongue like a burst of memories – spicy, strong, and enchanting.

That glass of beer is RuinTen Triple IPA.

Right from the first sip, the sharp bitterness was like a greeting from an old friend who had not seen me for a long time. Then the aroma of ripe oranges, a little malt, and the light scent of green pine drifted into my nose, reminding me of the afternoons in my hometown - where I used to sit and talk for hours without getting bored. There was something very fierce, very real in this glass of beer. It was not a gentle hug. It was a punch - but the punch of a close friend who had just met again, raising his hand to punch my shoulder with red eyes.

Not every beer makes you feel alive. But RuinTen Triple IPA is different. It awakens every cell, every memory. And in this strange night, for us - it is a call from the past, echoing in the present.

1. The Journey From Stone Brewing To RuinTen

The story of Stone Brewing started in 1996 in San Marcos, California, by two men who were not afraid of challenges – Greg Koch and Steve Wagner. At that time, they did not follow the trend of making light, easy-to-drink beers to please the masses. They chose a more rugged path – making beers that were bold, extremely personal, and challenging to the taste buds. Because for them, beer was a language to tell a story, and every drop was an emotional touch.

After just a few years, Stone Brewing has become an icon of American craft beer, featuring a style West Coast IPA – bitter, intense aroma and long aftertaste. The brewery quickly expanded, moving its headquarters to Escondido, building a production space imbued with the spirit of art and sustainable green environment. It was not just a place to brew beer, but a place to nurture passion and creativity.

In 2002, they launched Stone Ruination IPA – one of the lines Double IPA The first mass-produced ale in the United States, it was an instant hit with beer lovers for its intense bitterness and extremely pronounced flavor. The name “Ruination” is no coincidence – it refers to the sense of being “ravaged” (in a good way) by excessive amounts of hops.

In 2012, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the line Ruination IPA, they created a commemorative edition called Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA. This version has everything IPA lovers crave: darker, more bitter, more aromatic, and stronger – with alcohol concentration 10.8% and IBU up to 110.

The response from the beer-loving community exceeded all expectations. People not only drank it, but also talked about it, shared it, and praised it as if they had found a treasure. And thus the name RuinTen was born – concise but sharp, like the beer itself.

Since then, RuinTen Triple IPA has become a name that is always on the “must-try” list of heavy IPA lovers. Especially, although Stone Brewing Grouped Sapporo Breweries buy back in 2022, the spirit of RuinTen It's still the beer that makes your heart beat faster, your mind clear, and your taste buds feel like they've just reached their peak.

2. RuinTen Triple IPA – Intense and Complex Flavor

As soon as it is poured into a tulip glass, a layer of fluffy foam appears like an afternoon cloud, carrying the passionate aroma of orange peel, green pine, a bit of burnt caramel and the aftertaste of tropical fruits such as papaya and ripe mango. Each sip is a collision, a high note in a rich music: the sweetness of the malt melts lightly and is immediately washed away by a wave of dry bitterness and the pungent aroma of the hops.

Outstanding flavor layers:

  • Scent: Green pine, citrus, mandarin orange, resin, toasted caramel.
  • Taste: Sweet opening from the malt, then bitterness surges and lingers deep, clean, and long.
  • Mouthfeel: Full-bodied, warm, almost viscous from the generous malt content – yet balanced by superior bitterness.

RuinTen Not a beer to be gulped down quickly or used as a background for conversation. It is a conversation. Each sip is a story, each layer of flavor is a memory – for those who truly want to slow down and feel.

3. RuinTen Special Editions – A New Symphony Every Year

Not stopping at the original version which was intense enough, Stone Brewing continuously testing and introducing special versions of RuinTen Triple IPA Like works of art, each year has its own identity, making IPA lovers always eagerly await.

3.1 RuinTen with Orange Peel & Vanilla Bean

Launched in the summer of 2017, this version is like a cool breeze in the desert of fire. The fresh orange scent from carefully fermented orange peel, combined with the sweet taste of vanilla bean naturally, creating a more subtle layer of flavor, but without losing the original strength. The aftertaste is a bit reminiscent of orange ice cream – contradictory but attractive.

3.2 RuinTen Double Dry-Hopped (DDH)

This is the version for the “heavy hops” fan. With the use of technique double dry-hopping with hop varieties such as Citra, Centennial and Simcoe, the aroma blooms intensely: pine, passion fruit, licorice and a dense resinous smell. The bitterness is sharp as a knife blade, but brings a surprisingly clean and refreshing feeling in the aftertaste.

3.3 RuinTen Fresh Hopped

Dedicated to the fresh hop harvest season, the “fresh hopped” version uses undried hops, bringing a more vibrant experience than ever. The aroma is like a wet flower garden after the rain, fresh and strangely familiar.

Each version RuinTen like a new riff on the intense IPA track that Stone Brewing playing. No two versions are the same, and no one version feels old to the drinker. Because for them, creating a beer is never a limit, but a journey of emotional discovery, year after year.

4. How to Enjoy Every Feeling

RuinTen Triple IPA It’s not a beer to be drunk for fun. It’s an experience to be respected – like a symphony that requires quiet space to listen to each note. To fully appreciate the power and sophistication of this IPA, you need a little preparation.

4.1 Glass of Beer: Choose Right, Enjoy

  • Tulip Glass or Snifter is the ideal choice. The central bulge and cupped mouth shape help retain a thick head of foam, while capturing the powerful aroma characteristic of hops.
  • Avoid using large, wide-mouthed cups, as this will cause the scent to evaporate quickly and disrupt the aromatic experience.

4.2 Serving Temperature: Not Too Cold

  • Best served at 10 – 13°C (50 – 55°F). If it’s colder, the malt layers and fruit flavors will be suppressed, leaving only a sharp bitterness. But when warm enough, the beer opens up gradually like a thick book opening its pages, each page smelling of old paper.

4.3 Timing and Attitude: No Rush

  • Please spend RuinTen for those unhurried evenings, when you need deep relaxation, or need a milestone for memorable conversation.
  • Beer is like a character with personality – you can't understand them on first meeting, drink slowly, savoring each layer of flavor.

4.4 Food Pairings: Choose a Worthy Companion

  • Savory, flavorful dishes: BBQ ribs, spicy sausage, smoked beef, or marinated lamb.
  • Rich and strong cheese: Blue cheese, gorgonzola, aged cheddar.
  • Hot and spicy Asian food: Korean spicy noodles, Sichuan hot pot, spicy fried chicken.

5. Awards and Reputation

If other IPAs seek glory from international competitions, then RuinTen Triple IPA chose a different path – building a legend from the heart of the craft beer community.

  • Fan Favorite #1 voted by fans through the internal system of Stone Brewing 2022 – surpassing dozens of other beers to take the top spot.
  • Top Rated IPA on many popular beer review platforms with an average score consistently above 4.3/5, belongs to the “World-Class IPA” group.
  • Hailed by IPA enthusiasts as one of those rare beers that is both rich and balanced – where the bitterness doesn't kill the aftertaste, but elevates it to an art form.

Interestingly, although it doesn't appear often in mainstream international competitions, wherever beer connoisseurs gather, the name RuinTen always resounds with respect. It does not need the stage halo, because each glass of beer poured is an invisible trophy in the heart of the drinker.

It is a reputation that does not come from gold or silver, but from the unspoken consensus of those who passionately love the beauty of taste.

6. Conclusion: There Are Flavors Not Just To Remember, But To Return To

When we clinked glasses that night, in the middle of a strange city and warm dim lights, I didn't think a single drink RuinTen Triple IPA can bring back the past so clearly. In the bitter taste as thick as the life gone by, in the aftertaste as long as the years away from home, is a familiar feeling that cannot be named – can only be felt. A beer, which seems to be just a strong drink, becomes the bridge for a silent but emotional reunion.

But strong in the way of things that have been experienced, have stumbled, have tasted bitterness, and now can look at each other and smile. No need to say much, just one more glass, is enough to understand.

If you've ever had a friend like that, an evening like that, a feeling that deep – then RuinTen Triple IPA is something you should not miss. Because there are beers that are not just to enjoy, but to relive. And there are reunions that, sometimes, start with a bitter sip.
