Rotbier ("red beer") is a traditional lager style from the Franconia region of Germany, particularly famous in the city of Nuremberg. The name "Rotbier" comes from the beer's distinctive amber to copper red color.
This style is characterized by a distinct malt aroma, reminiscent of toasted bread, caramel, and sometimes a hint of biscuit. The hops are usually quite mild, providing just enough bitterness to balance the malt flavor.
Thanks to the lager fermentation and cold aging process, Rotbier has a clean, smooth taste and is quite easy to drink, although the malt flavor is quite prominent.
