Bière de Garde is a traditional beer style from northern France, particularly popular in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. The name "Bière de Garde" means "aged beer," as it was traditionally brewed in the cold season and then aged in cellars for several months before being consumed.
This style typically has a deep yellow to amber or light brown color, with a distinct malt flavor. You can detect notes of toasted bread, caramel, and sometimes a hint of biscuit. The hops are quite light, so the beer leans towards malt.
Despite having a slightly higher alcohol content than regular lager, Bière de Garde retains the smooth, clean, and fairly easy-to-drink feel characteristic of many traditional European beer styles.
