Flanders Oud Bruin It is one of the oldest and most complex sour beer styles in Belgium, often referred to as the "red wine of the beer world" due to its distinctive malt depth and smooth acidity.
This style originated in East Flanders, particularly around the city of Oudenaarde. Interestingly, Oud Bruin originally emerged as a way for brewers to preserve beer through the summer before refrigeration. When beer is aged for a long time in large wooden crates, natural microorganisms create a mild acidity and a unique depth of flavor.
Beer has color mahogany to deep reddish-brown, with Notes of caramel, raisin, plum, dark cherry, oak, and a light balsamic acidity.. Compared to Flanders Red Ale, Oud Bruin is softer, malt-forward, and more wine-like, creating an experience that is both classic and extremely refined.
