Schwarzbier is a traditional dark lager style from Germany, particularly popular in the Saxony and Thuringia regions. Despite its very dark color, this beer is quite light and easy to drink, unlike stouts or porters which are usually darker and heavier.
When drunk, Schwarzbier typically has a light roasted malt aroma, reminiscent of mild coffee, dark chocolate, and toast. German hops provide a moderate bitterness that balances the malt flavor.
Thanks to the lager fermentation process and long cold aging, Schwarzbier has a clean, smooth, and fairly neat taste, making it one of the easiest stouts to drink.
