“You go like the wind
And I sit back with the afternoon broken in two
Beer ripples, soul fragments fall
Balter is still there, but you are far away…”
That day, Currumbin seemed to float in a silent song. The sunlight gently fell on each grain of sand, as gentle as your hands in the past, and the waves caressed endlessly, as if they were trying to caress the one who stayed behind - me. You left, leaving behind only an empty space and separation. Balter XPA still swaying in my hand, silent as if not knowing what to say. The wind blew gently through the window, just like a familiar hair stroke that I knew by heart, now just a faint breath.
I drink – not to forget, but to remember. Not to get drunk, but to grasp something that is melting between my fingers. The white foam just flows, gently, fragile like a memory that has not yet had time to take shape and has faded. Each sip that passes through my throat is like an apology that will never be sent – because I could not keep you. But I can keep Balter, like keeping the aftertaste of the beautiful things that life has gently taken away.
1. The Journey of Those Who Live with the Waves
Balter didn’t start with a marketing plan or investment expectations, but with a pure dream from men who had lived their lives on the waves. In 2016, four legendary names in surfing Australia – Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Josh Kerr and Bede Durbidge – after countless sunsets drifting on the ocean, we sat down and asked each other: “In the end, what remains when the last wave dissipates?”
The answer isn’t medals or rankings. It’s emotions. It’s memories. It’s short-lived, genuine joy. And so they decided to bottle it up – so that if one day they’re no longer on their boards, they can still access that feeling in a sip of beer.

They come to Scotty Hargrave – a brewer not only by craft, but by heart. A nomad who wandered through small breweries across Australia to understand how emotions ferment into yeast. They didn’t build a brewery – they built a place to keep memories, located in Currumbin, a place full of sun, wind and memories. There, people not only smell the malt and hops, but also feel the sincerity in every breath of space.
Balter Brewing Co. from there was born, like a love song sent to the sea. The name “Balter” – meaning “dancing without reason” – seems innocent and cheerful, but contains a gentle depth. Because joy only truly touches the heart when it has gone through sadness.
Balter XPA – their first child – is not flashy, does not seek to attract noise. It is humble like the sunset at the end of the sea: just bold enough to make us stop, gentle enough to make us remember forever.
2. Flavor: Like Sadness with the Scent of Flowers
Be stylish American Pale Ale, Balter XPA carrying the scent of ripe orange, fragrant pineapple and cool custard apple – scents that seem to encapsulate a youthful summer. But behind that sweet layer, there is a slight bitterness – enough to remind us that the most beautiful things are always fragile.
Alcohol concentration 5.0% Not enough to sway you, but enough to make your heart sway. Bitterness 30 IBU not violently, but just like a gentle whisper on the back of the tongue. A small sip, but a whole world of memories can rush back – like when someone suddenly calls the name of someone you've tried to forget.
Balter XPA It doesn't make you forget. It makes you silent. And then you realize, it's that silence that's when you listen to your heart the most.
3. Enjoy Beer As A Way To Remember
- Drinking glass: No need to be pretentious. Just a glass deep enough to hold the echoes of memories.
- Temperature: 7–10°C – cold enough to sting the heart, like a hand that has not been let go.
- How to pour: Pour slowly, like writing the last lines of an unsent letter. Let the foam rise, like emotions that cannot be contained.
4. Dishes That No Longer Require Anyone to Share the Table With
- Grilled chicken with tamarind – sweet and spicy, like a love that has passed but the aftertaste still remains.
- Five-color salad – bright just to cover up the emptiness.
- Roasted seeds – fragrant, rich taste of life.

- Grilled seafood – the salty scent of the sea, like the eyes of an old friend that once sparkled in the sunset.
- Garlic bread – crisp, like the laughter of that year now only echoes in dreams.
5. Whispers of Memory
There are memories that don't need words - just sit down and share them. Balter XPAh, and listen to your heart speak softly. That is when beer is not just beer, but a friend – knowing when to be silent, knowing when to sit by when you are weak. The words below are not just feelings, but echoes from souls who have loved, regretted, and sat alone with Balter in their arms:
- “I used to love someone. She liked cold beer and windless afternoons. Now only Balter XPA drinks with me.”
- “There are beers that make you smile. There are beers that make you nostalgic. Balter XPA is both – a reminder of the past, but also makes you smile because you had it.”
- “Every time I open the bottle, my heart breaks. Not because of the beer, but because the person who once held that glass with me is now in another city.”
- “If you were a song, then Balter would be the echo after the last note – the words unclear, but lingering in the heart.”
6. Conclusion: When Only One Person and One Old Breath Remains
“…I still sit here, with only my shadow
Balter in hand, no one calls anymore
You are the late sun, I am the darkness
Last sip… but the memory still lingers.”

There are days when we don't need anyone to ask how we are or make us laugh. All we need is an old chair, a corner of the balcony, a bottle of wine. Balter XPA – and I, facing myself. Not drinking to forget. But drinking to be allowed to love once more, in silence.
